Front lower track control arm ...

Post by gazza82 »

So what is it with these??? Are they made of cheese??? MOT is due and now found two small splits in balljoint cover plus the front mounting rubber is splitting ...

Wondering whether to fit the GTI arms with stiffer mounts ...

This is probably my "nemesis job" on a 206 ...

Did they come from Europarts?

No but I remember they were branded ... FAI or something. It lasted two years ...

Checking on servicebox it is possible this was the wrong arm, ie non-GTI, but they don't seem to last much longer on our 1.4 hdi either ...

Problem is if it doesn't clonk or cause the car to pull or wander it doesn't take too long to start to shred a tyre either ...

Col: I think the arms I keep getting sold are the standard ones. I've checked on ServiceBox and the CC is definitely coming back with a different part number to the 1.4 HDi.

It passed the MOT today, but when you drive Kermit it is pulling slightly to the left under even gentle acceleration and then pulls back to the right when you let off. The mounting bushes are definitely split or splitting and yet you can't see any play when up on the lift. Probably because they can't get the right angle on them to make them move. Also hard to see when the wide alloys are on.

I think I'll have to go for the firmer GTI arms this time and see if that works and they last more than one MOT!

I changed the rubber boots on mine when i bought it. 4 months later I had to change the arms for the MOT as the ball joints were knocking! The replacements were also listed for the GTI. (Ebay)
