Driver's seat belt problem...

Post by Jamesk07 »

Hi all,

I have a problem with my driver's seat belt. Mine is a 2001 (Y Reg) 206 cc, 1.6 petrol.

The reel jams constantly, meaning I have to wrestle with it each time I get in the car, pulling it out, letting it reel back in, back and fourth until I have enough to clip it in place. Has anyone else experienced this?

It doesn't appear to be twisted in any way, I have checked quite thoroughly. Sometimes, whilst driving the belt just locks tight, trapping me in position, meaning I have to pull over to free myself as I can't move my body.

Does anyone know of any easy fix for this?

Many thanks,

James

The only thing to check is that the reel is mounted horizontally. If it is, you will have to replace it. There are no servicable parts (and would you trust your life with it if you did mess around with it?)

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I will have the panel off and check it's mounted horizontally and as you say, if it is then I'll have to replace it. It certainly isn't worth risking your life for the sake of a seat belt.

Many thanks for your advice,

James

I've finally sourced a replacement seat belt (drivers side) as my one is driving me spare... Question is, is there a specific way in which I should fit this? Do I need to disconnect the battery befor unplugging the old one and plugging in the new?

When I think back to the beginning of this problem, it was when I was replacing the rear quarter window unit which was faulty. I had unplugged the orange plug on the seatbelt reel and once reconnected and the car was back together, it never worked properly since...

Many thanks in advance for your help,

James

Hi guys,

Going to give fitting this a go tonight hopefully... Just wondered if anyone has done it before and has advice as to whether I should disconnect the battery first or not?

I know how to remove and replace the seat belt, that's easy enough, but I'm just worried that it was me removing the one which is now broken when I replaced the rear window unit that was the cause of the problems. I did unplug the orange wire to the seat belt at the time and remove the unit to give myself more space to work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

James

Don't need to disconnect battery. Once the panel is off, It's quite straight forward
