intermittent stop light

Post by evans.zz »

Hi

i have just purchased a Peugeot 206 quicksilver, the stop light flashes intermittently.
The oil level is ok
The brake fluid level is ok
coolant level ok but coolant quite brown and gungey
brake pads are ok.

It also takes a couple of goes to get it started.

i would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks

You are going to need to get the fault codes read as this may tell you what is playing up. The STOP light comes on for a number of reasons from doors being open to problems with the immobiliser and it's linked to a number of vital sensors like temp to warn you to stop and check.

We also need to know more about the car: year of manufacture, engine size, petrol or diesel, etc .. manual or auto if you have transmission issues, etc. The more you can provide the better we can help ...

PS Is a Quicksilver a CC (convertible) or a hatchback?? ;)

You need to get this on a good diagnostic machine or P/Planet to get the codes for us to give the most accurate help.
Have you got service history, or know when it was last serviced? When does the stop light flash? at start up, when warm, in traffic?
BTW the cam belt is due now if not already changed.
Cheers Col.

As others have said you really need the fault codes read. However, if I was to guess, on the information you have given, I'd say that if you renewed the timing belt which is due to be changed as it is 10 years old, together with tensioner and idler pulleys and new water pump - which is recommended to be done at the same time as the belt, and flush the cooling system thoroughly and refill with fresh antifreeze mixture you'd solve your warning light issue. Unless of course the head gasket is beginning to blow in which case that would need renewing at the same time.

You're probably discovering why the previous owner has just sold it.

Welcome to the forum, even though you are not a 206cc owner.
