Good evening all.
Time for new front pads & discs on SWMBO's car. Does the 206cc prefer a particular brand of pad and disc combination or are there any I should avoid or indeed select if there is a choice?
Its a 2006 model with the 1.6L petrol engine if that makes a difference.

Re: New front pads & discs
Hi Andrew,
I just changed discs and pads all round. Went to Eurocarparts and used Eicher discs and pads. They're absolutely fine, no squeaking or any of the other quirks people have reported before.
Word of warning though, don't order on their website. They sent me the wrong discs, totally the wrong offset, didn't fit, was a pain in the backside to get them to rectify their mistake... That said, after moaning at them they agreed to replace them with the correct ones and it's being plain sailing ever since.
Eicher were very cheap in my opinion. I did some google research and it turns out Audi fit them from factory on the majority of their standard range cars. So I don't suppose they're of a bad quality either.
Hope this helps,
James

carparts4less.co.uk is ECP's web only outlet and often has a better price (unless ECP have a discount promo)
Other online car factors are buypartsby.co.uk ... mainly Mintex parts but you can get random makes from them ... all good quality though.
We fitted Eicher rear discs to the CC about 2 years ago and I had to replace them recently as they were badly worn (the Ferodo pads were also worn out but not to the metal!). Think we had a binding problem but this has been cleared with new brake cables ...

Re: New front pads & discs
Update: Changed the front discs & pads today using Capncol's guide, worked a treat. I think the MOT tester who put the advisory on the discs & pads needs to go to spec savers.
Got my vernier gauge out and allowed the OCD in me calculate that the pads were only 62% worn based on thickness & the discs were 75% worn, which whilst not brand new were not at the "will only last another 300-400 miles" mark - We can change them today for you for £185!!
So for a 2006 1.6l Petrol CC Apec 266mm discs (DSK1236) & pads (PAD1216) cost me £40 all in + £5 for a T55 torx bit to take the calliper hangers off. Job done £145 saved for a night away!
Thanks again to Capncol for the guide.

No ATS who to be fair have been very good with the Mrs over the past couple of years with the MOT. No failures, just advisories for things like corroded exhaust (it was 7 years old and past its best) and the tyres which had started to crack on the sides and between the tread blocks.
Another reasonably large chain who fitted the new tyres on Friday I purchased through Black Circles, tried to take the micky saying the back brake pads were 'dangerously low' only about 4mm left on them. I checked a new set when I picked up the front discs & pads and they appeared to be that thick to begin with!!
They also wanted £30 to do the tracking which was 'out' I declined as the car drives fine and there was no uneven wear on the old tyres. Got home and checked the tyre pressures 3 correct & 1 of the fronts over by 10 psi. Either it was piss poor attention to detail or a deliberate attempt to make the car handle poorly on the premise I would return to get the tracking done. Needless to say I won't be going there again
