Yet another dud Comm 2000 unit

As well as owning 2.0ltr 2001 cc I recently bought a 1.4 hdi 2002 'cos its only £30/yr tax but the DAV comms unit has gone faulty (indicators and headlights on etc) and has been apart prior to me buying it, Part No on unit is 96446862ZL,indicators,rear fog, rear w/wipe, std front wiper setup, no front fogs and has remote radio control. The question is are there alternative No's for this item as I'm led to believe that there were many upgrades over the years but still basically the same item but improved reliablity!!
Can I get away with a unit that has exactly the same functions but a different No ?
Any help in this area much appreciated

1, does the car has ESP

If your car has ESP there will be an ESP light on the dash that lights up when you turn the key on, another way to tell is there will be 5 connections on back of comms unit 1 will be black if the black connector has a black plug going into it then the car does not have esp, if it has a blue plug going into the black connector then the car has esp.

You will need a Delphi comm 2000 that has ESP in it if your car has ESP (you will also need to plug pp2000 in and recalibrate the steering angle sensor)

If your car does not have ESP you need a DAV or Delphi unit with no ESP (DAV units do not have ESP)

2, how many connections on the back of the comms unit

206 + 406 has 4 connections, 307 has 5 connections (I don’t know about rest)

If your car has 5 connections you need a unit with 5 but if your car has 4 you can use a unit that has 5 connections

3, has the car got auto lights/ wipers

If your car has auto lights or wipers you need a unit with a button on the end of the light stalk with an arrows pointing down the stalk saying auto, it will also say auto on the wiper stalk

4, has the car got a trip computer

If your car has a trip computer you will have a button on the end of the wiper stalk with 2 arrows pointing down the stalk

If your car has a trip button and you fit a unit with no button you will lose this feature

If your car has no trip button and you fit a unit with a trip button the rest of unit will work but to get the trip computer working you need to change settings in pp2000.

5, has the car got front fogs

If your car has front fogs then the unit will have 2 arrows up and 2 down on the fog switch apart from these markings the unit is the same and will work the same

E.g. if your car has front fogs and the unit does not it will still work the front fogs the same and vice versa

6, has your car got a rear wiper

If your car has a rear wiper you need a unit with a rear wiper

If your car does not have a rear wiper a unit with or without a rear wiper will work

7, is your car fitted with a comm2000

If your unit is a comm 2005 or any other comms unit a comm 2000 will not work.

Delphi made a comm 2000 and a comm 2003 both look the same and both say comm 2000 on the back but a comm 2003 has a barcode sticker on the top that will have a 96 number if it only has the 96 number it’s a comm 2000 if it says comm 2003 as well then it’s a comm 2003. Comm 2000’s and comm 2003 units cannot be swaped with each other your car will not start

8, radio stalk

This does not matter as this unclips and will plug into your new unit

9, cruise control

This does not matter as this unclips and will plug into your new unit

Update......Took a bit of a gamble and got a 2nd hand unit off a 307 (52 plate) with "white" wires, part No 96477540xt Delphi, for the airbag system and fitted today and was suprised and happy that it works perfectly. Only cost £30.00
