immobiliser/fuse problems

Post by fassam7 »

I recently bought a 206 GTI 2.0 51 plate. there was no head unit in the car and I have fitted my own one ive used in my last 3 cars with no issues. however today in the space of 6 hours I have had 3 fuses which power the immobiliser blow and the engine light (yellow) has also come on. the car seems to drive fine but as soon as I accelerate hard or pull away sharply it just blows the fuse again. does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? is it an issue with my electrics or the stereo? at some points my head unit kept cutting out if I turned It up over a certain volume as well. once I change the fuse the cars starts fine again with no issues until one of the above happens. please help I am completely stumped! thanks in advance

Haven't got wiring diagrams with me, so unless someone else answers first, I can check tomorrow for you. What fuse number is blowing?
Wouldn't have thought radio wouldn't cause this unless a serious short somewhere (you could always take the radio out and see if fuse is OK)
Cheers Col.

Hey its the 2nd row from the top, 4th in from the right. 10amp, red.. Looks the only new one there.. I've uploaded a pic with comment as I don't have owners manual, ive searched online and can't find a fuse diagram to give you exact fuse number. Sorry.. I disconnected head unit, still doing but when I'm accelerating hard only. Thanks for any help you can offer!

It's all sorted. Turns out a wire was split and every time it touched the gearbox is shorted the fuses. Hope this helps anyone else who may have same problem in future!
