Rear Brake Pads

Post by gazza82 »

Just been checking why the handbrake isn't holding and pads are worn ... after less than 28000 miles :o

Replaced all discs and pads when we got the car nearly three years ago (April 2011). Compared to my Alfa which gets through sets every 100,000 miles or so, that doesn't sound good. These were Ferodo pads (from Halfrauds) which I would have expected to last a lot longer.

(In fact last fronts on Alfa have lasted over 130k I've just realised  )

Anyway, CC is booked back in for new pads next weekend at "Gazza's Garage" and I'll order these later.

In the attempt to wind back the piston, using Haynes suggestions, snapped the bleed valve off ... not happy. That can wait ....

I have one more conundrum ... to raise the back-end safely you should "stand the car on axle stands using blocks of wood with a slot to fit on the sill at the jacking point" or words like that ... easy enough ... but how do you put the axle stand there when it's being used to lift the car in the first place ... sometime I think Haynes make these ideas up without checking them through .... numpties!!! I'll find a way ... ;)

Gazza, you don't need to touch the bleed nipple. If you need it, I have a spare caliper £20 +postage.
but how do you put the axle stand there when it's being used to lift the car in the first place
 How do you lift the car with axle stands?
Cheers Col.

I meant the sill jacking point which already had a jack where the axle stand should go... but I guess you realised that ... ;-)
