Re: Part Identification, Help Please
It is an emission device, but your car will still pass an emissions test at the mot.
It's purpose is to *recycle* some of the exhaust gasses back through the inlet under certain conditions. Unfortunately, as it is exhaust gasses passing through the EGR, they tend to get blocked with soot, carbon and oily deposits which tends to stop them closing properly resulting in a constant stream of exhaust gasses leaking into the inlet causing rough running.
Your choices are:-
Clean it out (not often successful and likely to soon give trouble again)
Replace it with new
Fabricate a new metal gasket to blank off the exhaust passages and refit old unit.
Trouble is, as a car engine gets old and worn, it produces more deposits in the exhaust, so if you put a new unit on you are likely to have to do it again in a year - eighteen months time.

Re: Part Identification, Help Please
Well from your fault codes look at 2&3 Measure the impedance compared with 1&4. Should be about 14.5 Ohm. Then check the plug onto the injectors. . Measure voltage both pins (one at a time) to ground (neg) Should see 13-14V on 1 an 0 on the other. If that all checks out see if you can borrow a set of noids and check them with those connected.
Post up your results please.
