Greetings everyone,
I've just bought a 206cc for my missus as a present but it looks like I'll be the one who does all the jobs on it so I've registered here.....it seems like a happy little gang

A little bit about the car. It's a 1.6, silver color, the roof works fine and the carpets are dry (I'm told this is a good start!). It's done 70K miles but passed its MoT with the only things needing fixing were the wiper blades and a failed sidelight bulb....no advisories either. There was no owners manual but I found a download on the Peugeot website, so that was a help.
From the handbook, I understand there should be a card with the key number and radio code (there wasn't one) so do I get this from the local Peugeot dealers? What do they charge for this?

I also noted in the handbook that there are some accessories for the 206CC, namely an "anti-air swirl net fitting".... is this a wind deflector or another gadget?
It also mentions a luggage net which clips to some holddown loops in the boot. Anyone use one of these?

Sorry about asking the questions but you know how it is with a new toy. There is no spare wheel with the 206CC...only the aerosol glue bottle. Is there a slimline emergency wheel that would fit? Does the standard 206 model use a slimline that would fit the CC?

So as not to outstay my welcome, I'd just like to add that this 206CC has a towbar fitted, with electrics. Anyone else here have a towbar? We'll probably use it for a bike carrier.

The radio is coded to the car, so would only need a code if you were to replace it, and I think a new security card is around £15, but check with the dealer [

Just make sure the diameter is the same

Welcome to the forum kenzo.

I bought a 206 space saver off eBay. The wheel bolts for the standard alloy wheels can be used on the steel wheels too as they are specially designed to do so. (If you have different longer wheel bolts just make sure that they don't foul on anything when the space saver wheel turns.) You used to be able to get a space-saver wheel from a scrappy but on my last visit the owner said that they are no longer permitted to sell them to the public. Some new European law no doubt!

The wind-deflector really works well, saves my wife's long hair blowing all over her face.

As for the luggage net I use one that I had when I had a Ford Mondeo. It helps stop stuff sliding about in the boot.

Check that you have your locking wheel nut socket too - before you have a puncture.

I've got a 206 cargo net ... I use it mostly in the Alfa though! It has plastic clips and is very easy to transfer between the cars.

They can be bought off ebay .. the only issue is eventually the elastic starts to go but mine has lasted a few years, so I'm not complaining!


The spare might be a problem as the car wasn't designed for one. I think grandadmonkey and other owners keep this behind the front seats with an appropriate cover. If it's higher than the pull-back boot blind, you might find the roof won't close properly, or even damage the roof. Or you keep the blind retracted which means it isn't a convertible. There isn't anywhere underneath to store it like the hatchback as the body strengthening rails bolt to a box that goes where the spare would be!

It lives in the rear passenger seat behind the driver, but if I need to carry 4 people at any time I pop it in the boot. It is low enough to allow the blind to be pulled across so that the roof can be lowered.

Bit off topic, but have you ever had to use it?

I've got a space-saver on the 156 ... I had a puncture years ago in France (front drivers side), and fitted it to get to a local garage ... the spare is much smaller diameter to the proper wheels and the resulting scraping noises were horrendous (then so are French country roads!). I'd recommend fitting spare on the rear and moving a rear to the front if that happened again and would probably be same on a 206! Twice as much work but less stares ... and frightened farm animals Still it kept me well below the 50mph speed limit that space-saver tyres have.

And their estimate of "dix minute" to fix the puncture translated to nearly 60 minutes in reality!

And they didn't take cards of any type ...

Only used it when we had a puncture. To support the car while I took the alloy to have a new tyre fitted.

The space saver fitted ok and the rolling circumference seems about the same as the normal tyres.

I went to our local scrapyard on Tuesday and asked about a Peugeot 206 space-saver wheel. "I'll have a look for you" said one of the yard men. He came back empty-handed and told me sorry....doesn't look like we have one. Just as I was turning to go, the yard owner asked what I was looking for. When I told him, he said "hang on a minute, I think we have some under this pile of tyres." and he told his yard-man to dig through. Five minutes later, he had found 4 of the four-stud spacesavers and two with five-stud fittings. I picked out the best four-stud wheel (with a decent Continental tyre on it) and he took it to a 206 and tried it on the disk. Perfect fit!
"How much is it?" I asked, expecting it to be about £30 to £40.
"A tenner" he said. It's now in my wife's 206cc boot space. I'll check the wheel on the car this weekend to make sure the wheel bolts don't interfere with the disk brake and let you know.

I thought I'd change the oil and filter while the going was good.... the sump drain bolt is easy to find but I just couldn't find the oil filter. I was expecting a spin-off canister type but there just wasn't one. Then a neighbour came over and pointed out a black plastic dome-cap with a hexagon top....on the front of the engine block. "I think that's the filter" he said.
As I wasn't sure, I didn't start unfastening it until I'd checked here and I don't know if the domed cap is part of the filter unit, or just the cover.

I have a Vauxhall Corsa "C" which has a plastic dome-cap but when I remove that, there's a throwaway fibre element inside....the new element clips inside the dome-cap and the whole lot goes back in its location. Is this how the oil filter is set up on the 206cc ?

I looked on ebay for oil filters and there seems to be several different types but this one (below) seems to be the right one. (the car is a 1.6 petrol, manual, 2003 model).
Once again your advice would be a great help.

Yes that one has paper element .. more expensive than canister type too.

Don't forget to replace sump plug washer.

I'd recommend you to buy a genuine Peugeot oil filter. Some after-market ones have been known to collapse in use and create oil pressure problems.

Last time I bought filters, in February the prices were:
Oil filter £11.23
Air filter: £15.88
Pollen filter: £9.98
all plus VAT of course
Don't forget that brake fluid should be renewed every couple of years too - people forget.

You did well with that space-saver spare - interesting that the scrappy would sell it to you too. Perhaps my local scrappy had got it wrong.

I use Fram on the 1.4 and they have been fine. This the 2.0 has a Unipart one at the moment ... canister type.

I went to Bolton's Peugeot dealer this afternoon.....the parts man was really helpful and interested (makes a change from the Vauxhall dealers). He even printed out a page of the oil filter and sump setup to show me where everything is located. I've got a Haynes manual on order, hasn't arrived yet.

If anyone wants to know, the oil filter element (fits into the plastic retainer) is p/n P00001109AN and inc vat was £9-84.
The sump plug gaskets are p/n P0000016488 and cost £1-54 and the oil (fully synthetic Total Quartz 9000 5w40) was a killer...£25-86 inc vat for 5 liters. When I change the oil again in 3,500 miles, it will be Asda's 5W40 synthetic at £15-00
