ign live doesn't die imediately.........

Post by Rekkymech »

Hello all, have made my introductions on the welcome page if u want a little back ground :)

Anyway, one thing I have done is pop a head unit in with an iso adapter plug that was on the head unit when it was in my beemer, but having probed the output plug from the loom they all appeared to be in the right place all be it I couldn't which one of the two lives was ign live as they both remained at 12.6v with key on or off? I switch off ign and still the radio carries on......ok then I'll swap the ign live with the perm live wires on the adapter, try again.......radio working with ignition, switch off remove key, still on, lock doors, still on........scratch head, go in house for a pee leaving radio playing away to itself.......

Come back from the loo and all is quiet and radio is off......as soon as I open drivers door on it comes again??? Check the presets and all gud so memory is kept so ign live and bat live showing to be correct in the reversed position.

So I switch of ignition and wait, radio carries on for 1m 15s before going off.....but same again, comes back on as soon as door opened,

Any ideas, and please be assured the iso adapter has been taken out the equation by doing the same tests with a probe direct into the loom plug

Thanks in advance

Steve

Welcome Steve.
If you have a 52 plate your car will have have a multi plex system which means your BSI will need updating to allow for an aftermarket headunit. I had mine read using peugeot planet and it has an option for headunits.

Ah that would make sense, the merc trucks have to have the relevant control units parameterized and SCN coded(updated with the server in Germany) whenever we did a retro fit, I.e cab phones, or fleetboard etc, even if a longrange diesel tank is fitted the INS control unit has to re parameterised so the fuel guage displays correctly but then has to be SCN coded so the Germans have an accurate record of the spec and a mirror of the control unit parrameters that can be downloaded to a replacement if it were to fail......manually sorting through 200 plus parameters on the Star machine is a real ache and as such this system a god send
