Roof halfway!!!

Post by WesFriedel »

Hi all

Ive just developed a fault with my roof opening halfway and then stopping and getting a beep.....It will close ok just gets stuck halfway open.

Before I start looking into faulty switches can anyone point me in a likely direction?

Thanks

At exactly what point does it stop?
Cheers Col.

Its about halfway open. Boots opens as normal, roof raises and stops halfway in the air. Had a quick play with the boot catches and it opened but happened again the next time again.

Sounds like roof open/closed microswitch inside left hand side of the boot. Right in the corner where the hinge is.
As roof opens, micro stays stuck, so the time delay cuts the system as it thinks roof hasn't moved at all.

Ok so today we have had further issues......so I rectified the previous error by fiddling with the boot catches either side of the boot as it was stuck open, worked straight away after fiddling with both!

Today the roof cut out about 3/4 open and then fell into the boot slowly under its own weight, nothing happened with the switch after that just a constant beep.....I manually locked the boot with the U clamps but no power to secure the boot properly.......I drove home half an hour turning the radio up to avoid the constant beeping above 10mph!!! Got home and thought I would try things to see if I could get the bootlid locked and it worked.......I now don't intend to open the roof until I can ascertain where the fault could be.

Fluid level is dead in the middle of the + mark where it should be, I have tried all the visible microswitches but not sure which could cause this problem....any ideas anyone?

Same switch I said before I think!
Near passenger side roof hinge. Torx screw I think to remove it. Look and see if the pin moves freely.
Roof won't close electrically as switch is telling ecu its already in closed position

Thanks...I tried that one and appears ok...is it worth a spray of WD or something???

I wouldn't bother with WD. The switches are sealed units. If you can remove it and give it lots of exercise so that it consistently clicks one way or the other every single time it's operated, then should be OK.

Did you remove it to check it? I had an electrician check mine initially, and it seemed to be giving the right responses. Turns out the pin was sticking, but it wasn't possible to tell properly until it was brought out. If not that one, run the same process with all the switches. Only takes one to be sticky to throw the system out.
