windows shake....

Post by alexbillbridgnorth »

Hey guys just wanted to check this was normal. When I'm driving a long a bumpy road with my roof down and windows up the drivers side windows knocks againsed the rear drivers windows and makes a bit of a racket. Does this happen as part and parcel of having a convertible or should I be worried?

Thanks :)

Just out of interest, why is it normal? Poor build quality? Surely they didn't al have it from new, and there could be a slight issue with misalignment or wear?

There isn't much to support the windows. On bumpy ground you either need to keep the roof up or the windows down.

Open the doors with the roof down and look through the car - or rather look at how little metal there is connecting the front to the rear - and there's your answer.
When the roof is up it adds a significant amount of torsional stiffness.
In fact if you jack up one corner when the roof is down and open a door, you might be surprised how the shut lines have changed when you come to close it again.
They really are that bendy!
Hence the triangulation pieces that go from the floor to the rear bumper. I'd hate to think what would happen if they weren't there.
