Interior Mirror

My interior mirror has become detached from fixing on windscreen is there an easy way of putting it back on ?? the windscreen fixing is a ball and mirror i presumed would just push on. I have tried greasing both parts but still not clicking into place.Afraid to use too much force incase break mirror or should I use mor brute force ???.
