ABS Light & Sensor Clean

Post by jumpingmattflash »

Hi all,

I've just bought me and the wife to be a 206 cc. It needs a bit of love but it was cheap, so for me it's a project, for the wife to be, it's her wedding present.

One of the things I bought the car with was the ABS light being illuminated. After doing a bit of research it seems that a brake service wouldn't go a miss (it needs new pads n discs anyhow) and the ABS sensor might need a clean. So in my infinite wisdom I thought I'd remove the sensors as I was renewing pads n discs... Seemed like a good idea, now, not so much.

After removing the ABS Sensor Cap, which was straight forward I then removed the retaining bolt and gave it a little clean round the sensor. Next job, try and remove it. That is where it went downhill. I tried using a screwdriver to lever it out but got no where. I liberally WD40'd it, still only the tinest of wiggles, it was not coming out. I even tried swearing at it and still it wouldn't obey. So tried to put it back together and managed to shear off the retaining bolt, bad times! :(

Anyway, my question is - how do you get the bloomin ABS sensor out of the front wheel so I can either clean or replace it?

Firstly how do you know it's a front wheel sensor. Did you have the codes read?
In answer to your question- because they are plastic and sit in a metal hole, they end up getting held in with corrosion. Quite often have to break them to get them out.
Cheers Col.

Hiya,

I have no idea if it was that sensor, it just happened to be the wheel I was working on. Given the chore it appears to be to remove or replace these sensors, I'm now on the hunt for a local specialist to do the diagnostics check.

Any recommendations for pug specialists in the Stockton or Middlesbrough area?

Thanks, Matt
