Aircon and Time Unreadable

Post by tyealia »

hi everyone,

So I bought this Peugeot 206 cc here while I'm living in Mexico.

It comes with an air-conditioning unit that has an LCD looking screen which is orange and the time unit at the top however though the air conditioner functions completely perfectly and it looks like the LED lights are lighting up the display fairly brightly I still cannot read the numbers or any of the information displayed.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem or had a solution or if I'm better off just buying a brand-new air con part from old or scrapped car.

I have searched the forums regarding other cars and I found an article on a Lotus that have similar problems due to high temperatures. The temperatures here in Mexico can get up to 40°C and the car is a 2005 so this may be sun damage?

anyway if anyone has any idea if this is repairable or what my next step should be please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

that control panel will not display the time, if you have DAC/AC/CC and it's a 2005 car then it works by means of hall effect switch system through the BSI (a bit like a remote control without the IR) older versions used tactile type switches, if you get one from a scrappy make sure they are the same as the plug connectors at the back and the serial numbers match as they can be different internally aswell but the fronts look the same. if you are confident in taking it apart its worth checking to see if the screen is seated correctly in its housing inside and all the contacts are clean and touching as dirt and dust can have a effect on the function

Thanks Shadow appreciate all the info, I took it to a few electricians and they told me it was sun damage and unfixable without replacing the part and I got a quote from a scrappy for $300 not really worth it considering it works fine just looks ugly, so I went to a leather shop bought the red leather that matches the seats and had a piece cutt out and put over the screen, looks so much better without the ugly orange screen of death haha. I will post again if i decide to replace it in the future.
