2004 206 1.1s Power Loose / Misfiring

Post by Kenalda »

Hi,
First time posting. My missus has a 2004 1.1s with 40,000 on it. The wee car has never gave us any problems and has had a really easy life.
2 weeks ago, it lost power and the engine management light came on. She phoned me and i drove about 5mins to meet her. She hadnt turned it off and it was ticking over but sounded very bad like it was misfiring or a banana was shoved up the exhaust. She took my car home and i jumped in. Tried to accelerate and it wouldnt rev over 1000 and sounded really sick. Turned the engine off then restarted immediately and everything was back to normal. Took it to our garage and they said the fault code was ignition and it was probably the coil unit. They replaced it and the plugs and wee car seemed fine for another week. She was driving it today and lost power again. This time the engine management was flashing. She knew what to do, restarted it and drove it to the garage. Code 0030 again. Ignition. Any ideas? Have been told it may be a frayed wire and was wondering if anyone knew a likely candidate to check first before starting to look for the needle in the haystack.
Any help would be appreciated.

Misfiring problem with 1,150cc models could lead to spiked catalytic converters (see 'Recalls'). Make sure central locking system works (see above). Reports of 1,150cc 206s still being sold with faulty ECUs and a shortage of chips to repair them in March 2001.

Recalls

1,150 cc models only, 1,000 cars affected: TSB issued in spring 2000 to replace ignition coil pack, leads and plugs owning to misfire, but correction packs only supplied at rate of 20 a month.

That code is for lambda circuit. Take the lambda plug off and meter towards the sensor across the two wires of the same colour. You should see resistance. If not, change the sensor.
