206CC 2.0 Exhaust

Post by gazza82 »

Finally, the exhaust on my daughter's CC has given up ... snapped at the join between centre pipe and rear silencer box.

Now it should be reasonable easy to replace except, where the centre pipe joins what I assume is a catalytic converter ... there doesn't seem to be a join ...

So has anyone changed the whole exhaust on a 2.0 (2001) and what were you charged for/what did you buy?

thanks

Changed exhaust system today .. not overly difficult, but would have been easier on a ramp or with a pit.

Seeing the front clamp was very rusty decided to cut through the bolt ... got just over half way when the bolt trapped the hacksaw blade. So if I can get a spanner on the nut a quick twist will snap it ... no, the nut turned and came undone ... :? Luckily I'd bought a new one so no problems. Hardest part was getting the new front clamp on ... one arm infront of subframe and one to the rear to hold the clamp in place and get the second washer and nut on .. old clamp had one bolt, new two.

Lambda's came out ok ... have a lambda socket but rear one wouldn't screw in .. the new exhaust had the threaded part slightly offset on the pipe so it was blocked. A couple of mins with a file solved that.

New mounting rubbers were hard to get on the old brackets .. mainly due to the rust but copperslip helps!

All back and how quiet is it? Very ... in fact when my daughter drove away I thought at first she was rolling it down the drive .. :)

Next on list .. radio/cd and why it keeps just failing to play or eject discs ... now she can hear it, it's probably worth fixing! ;)

Well done, not the easiest of jobs and can be very time consuming. Helps if you're a contortionist. Did you just use a jack and stands?

Where did you buy the new system and how much did it cost?

Good luck with the ICE.

It was the front clamp that was the pain ... trying to hold it together while putting the two spring washers and nuts on proved fun! That's where I had one arm on either side of the crossmember. Once that was done, a few socket extensions made it long enough to reach from underneath.

Yes, up on axle stands ... don't see many ramps nowadays and a lot of cars are just too low to get up them without resorting to "mods" ...

I got it from online-automotive.co.uk ... was £240 all in with me collecting it from a local depot. On ours the front pipe includes the flexi, the cat and the central silencer making it expensive. Although the state of the exhaust on the car was such I think it was the original or a second hand one ... and probably not the right part for the car. Tell-tale sign was the exhaust tail pipe didn't line up on the bumper and someone had hand-written a part number on the centre silencer ... :hmm:

BUT ...

They ordered the wrong front clamp and I ended up having to source one locally as they haven't sent the replacements yet .. two weeks later! Luckily they are less than £2 or I would be seething ...

I also had a problem fitting the rear lambda as the welded on thread was not quite aligned leaving a bit of pipe overlapping enough to stop the lambda screwing back in .. ... a small file sorted that .. luckily it's mild steel.

So far so good ... it's been for a run to Brighton and back and still there! :big-grin:
