Hi all, I bought my lovely 206cc three weeks ago, it's an 02, good condition and low mileage and I have the service history - no previous roof issues. I operated the roof a couple of times on the first day to test it and it was fine.
3 weeks later, there was finally a sunny day, the moment I had been waiting for! I eagerly jumped into the car and in my over-excitement I stupidly forgot to undo the roof clips before activating the switch. The windows opened but of course nothing else happened and I continued to hold up the switch for approx 5 seconds before realising and letting it go. After that the roof wouldn't go down. I get the 'bong' sound when I undo the roof clips (and when I close them); but I just get a beeping when I then attempt to activate the roof switch. The beeping also occurs for a few seconds after turning the engine both on and off; also, when I first start the engine the display shows a spanner and the number 5090 which I assume is an error code.
I haven't seen mention of this error code within this forum so far - is this something that anyone has come across? - and any general suggestions about whether I may be able to fix this without an expensive repair? I'm devastated that I have broken my new car so soon after purchase so I would be very grateful!!
I am still able to open and close the windows.
Thanks,

Hello Silvercar and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear of the problems you are having.
The spanner and number 5090 that comes up on turning on the ignition (not starting the engine) is part of the sequence explained in your owners manual. It is simply telling you that the next service is due in 5090 miles (or kilometres if your car is set to km). Have you read you owners manual because I recommend to all new owners that they do that first. It is easy for new owners, ignorant of the correct procedures, to create self-inflicted problems with these cars. If you have no handbook then download one

What you did shouldn't have caused any long term problem. I think that most of us will have forgotten to undo the roof clips. If that happens all you do is release the roof operating switch, undo the roof clips, and operate the switch again. As long as you'd done absolutely nothing else in the meantime, and you'd got the blind drawn across and making contact with the microswitch in the boot, the roof should work normally. What you must not do, mid procedure, is anything else. Don't switch off the ignition, don't undo a seatbelt, don't do anything...........until the roof has finished opening and the confirmation chime has sounded. It is always a good idea always to have your engine running while operating the roof, that way you shouldn't flatten your battery.
Have a read of your manual.....from the front cover to the back.
There are then plenty of topics of this forum concerning the roof, have a search through them.
