3rd brake light bulbs

Post by buggy »

Hi all,
I have an 02 206CC with a bulb in the centre of the 3rd brake light gone.
Is the bulb a replaceable item, it looks like I have a row of 10 in the unit and its a middle one thats out.
Done a search but the links would appear to have disappeared with the forum change, so thought I would ask before I ripped it apart ( especially as the rain won't stop! )
Thanks in advance.

Here's a post regarding the 3rd brake light. I'm not sure whether Ollie found the right bulb though, he hasn't been on here for a while.

If you find a link from before the forum update, try replacing the viewtopic.php?id= with viewtopic.php?f=1&t= and it should work.

Some are sealed units .. ours is ... so you can't replace just the bulb ... you have to replace the complete light unit! :censored:

If they are replacable, they are likely to be capless bulbs, but I don't know what wattage ... and owners handbook is with the 206CC at my daughter's.

:love-thx: GrandadMonkey

Felt better today and it was actually a blue sky where I live, so I delved.

Took the 3rd brake light out using the traditional method. On examining the unit it had the 2 retaining bolts looking like they were bonded in to the fitting Image, this is not the case, they are screwed through the rear black bulb-holder part of the light into the main body of the lens Image (coarser thread on this section, and what looked like a nut was mid-section of the bolt).
Having separated the two parts I discovered that the bulbs are standard type, and through a little net-trawling I identified them as R284 12V W2.3W Indicator & Panel bulbs. Not being able to source them locally, I have ordered and reassembled light for now.

I intend to replace all in one go (10) and when I do will try and remember to take some pics for info.

Are you sure you have the correct wattage? Sounds too low to me.
Cheers Col.

I'll get back to you on that one, cant access them again atm. They are the only ones that resemble the fitted bulb. And during the trawling they are quoted as High Level Brake light bulbs used on Audi's. Watch this space , as they say.

New bulbs arrived and I can confirm they are the correct style, fitting and wattage, side by side comparison with the old (and completely unmarked) bulbs bears this out as does a test with old and new alongside each other in the brake fitting when lit.

I have edited the previous post I made and included a couple of pics.

However I have found that my bulb wasn't at fault but the actual bulb holder. The end holder has broken. There are 4 spring elements to hold these bulbs in place, one of mine had snapped at the base and wasn't keeping the pressure on the bulb to make a proper contact. Image
I know have a lopsided 9 bulb brakelight until I decide how to deal with it :!:

Final update, decided to get an LED replacement and did the EBay thing. New lamp fitted and all is well again when the lights are lit.

As a bonus the Taiwanese suppliers sent me a second set, unordered or requested, which are now for sale in the Trading Post section:-http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 12&t=13770

10 X 2.3W = 23Watt sounds just right for a brake bulb I think.
