When you say struggles to keep going, is it misfiring? Does the engine warning light (MIL) come on?

Hmm. If it hasn't been serviced recently, I would start there as it's never a waste of money if due. Cold start issues are actually a common problem by all accounts.
Some things to try.
Ensure correct grade of oil (Oil that's too thick will cause problems, hence the service suggestion)
Don't use NGK plugs, use Bosch
Try cleaning throttle body with carb cleaner (stepper motor may be sticking)

Sensors to try
Temp sensor
Crank position sensor.

Good luck & let us know what you find
Cheers Col.

If the plugs make no difference, its looking like you need to put it on diagnostics and see if any codes are stored and look at live data to see if anything is amiss.
Cheers Col.

I just re-read the whole thread and I misread the 16V as 1.6. Is it 1.6 or 2.0? If 2.0, see threads about tappets.

Wildy, my 1.6 does this; not so badly in the summer or mid afternoon but very pronounced in the winter or on early summer mornings...within 10 yards of the drive it's struggling reardless of how much throttle it's got, but as soon as we are around the corner, WHOOSh & it's off. new plugs, various treatments,a service and a damn good head scratch achieved nothing. My solution was to jump in, star the engine immediately and then faff about with stereo/ipod, seatbelt and spy on the neighbours for a minute or two before setting off.

there is a little valve tucked up behind the header tank, this is a called an evap-valve.

basically what it does is, allows the fuel tank to breath, when it goes wrong it stays shut causing excessive fuelling problems, which in turn will cause bad starting, awfull fuel economy, lumpy revving, etc.

they are about 25 quid from dealers.

mine had this problem, sorted

Hi all my wife's car has the same sort of problem but it has cut out a couple of times and on three times now its as if you have just disconnected the battery ie time and date go to default, it then starts and is ok,

This seems to happen on a cold morning the battery is only 6weeks old and I have been to my local Peugeot mechanic and his pc shows no faults found any ideas.
