Weird electrical problem, desperatly need help!

Post by Shell_206cc »

Hi all,

Bit of a weird problem with my car...hopefully someone might be able to help?

Few months ago both my headlights popped (as in both bulbs popped at exactly same time), sorted that but ever since then my computer has stopped working, i get he time and date but thats it...i used to have trip distance, fuel options..the usual but now nothing. Also i loose the ability to indicate, use main beam, use horn when my headlights are switched on. The headlights also flash on/off sometimes when the sidelights are on. Another thing ive noticed is that because ive had to turn the automatic headlights off, i get "running lights" but only on the drivers side (front and rear) but when you turn the stalk to sidelights only...both sidelights work offside & nearside, front and rear...buth then of course you get the above mentions fault of headlights flassing on/off.

This is getting really dangerous now as i cant use the car at night for fear of causing an accident due to lack of indicators, etc... Day time is ok as everything works fine as it should.
Could anyone shed some light on this problem for me...
Thanks in advance :)

2003 onwards???
Sounds like Com2000 unit gone (indicator / wiper stalk assembly) It's common
(and expensive)

The changeover was late 2002 I believe, so yes.
Final proof........... Have a look in the fuse box by your right knee. If there is a large "Fuse" in the centre, that looks different to the others, then definitely BSI equipped
Cheers Col.

There is a fuse that looks different to all the rest yes...a half green and half grey one i think it was? I remove this and it kills all the lights...is that the one you are referring to?
If i get a replacement comm2000 indicator stalk thing will that get the trip/fuel computer working again too or is that something else altogether???

Thanks for all your help!

You can try a BSI reset to see if gauge works. Comm 2000 may well sort it as they can do strange things.
