Locking wheel nut key

Hi all

Just bought a really lovely black 52 plate 2 litre 206CC that has only covered 44,000 miles from new.

It's mint throughout but I can't find the locking wheel nut key anywhere.

In the boot I have a polystyrene box with two cans of tyre inflator and an allen key. Next to that is the jack and chock in a bag. Tucked in the front of the boot in a cut out is a wheel brace and a yellow plastic tool for removing the silver bolt caps, but I can't find a locking wheel bolt key.

Where is it supposed to be kept, and if it's missing how can I get hold of another one?

It should be in the polystyrene box.

Some owners have been known to keep them in the glovebox.

To get a replacement you need the code that would have been on the original key. Failing that a friendly dealer might be able to help if they have various ones in their workshop, but don't hold your breath.

If it was me I'd ask the previous owner after I'd searched the car thoroughly. If all the other bits were there they were obviously meticulous. I'm surprised you didn't find it with the other bits. If you bought from a dealer, they might have it somewhere "safe".

Other things you might need are the key code card, and the service book.

Thanks for the reply.

The polystyrene box in the boot has space for the two cans and an allen key, I can't see where a locking wheel nut key would go. The glovebox is clean, it doesn't have an owner's manual but I found one on ebay. I have the service book though.

'Friendly' local Peugeot dealer in Slough (WLMG) has offered to drill out the current bolts for £90 + 2 hours labour and sell me some new ones for £35, rather a sledgehammer to crack a walnut in my opinion.

My final option is to try one of those reverse threaded sockets to try to pull out the bolts without the key, and replace them with some new ones.

don't waste your money it will not work has there is not enough bolt head to lock onto, had all mine replaced after the key rounded the heads, also don't renew with pug one's put the mcgards on

Thanks shadow, I take it you got the bolts drilled out in the end then? I'll source some new ones then go get the old ones drilled out I guess, didn't really want to do that but guess I'm left with no choice.

got mine off with a cold chisle 1 hour for all 4, just make sure you protect your wheels if you do this way

iv'e got 2 keys the same that might fit or maybe help if you want them

My skills with a chisel are likely to get the car written off, so I will have to get it booked into the garage and get the bastards drilled out.

My locking nut key broke a while back so the only option I ended up with was to take the car to Peugeot to have the bolt forcibly removed by one of the counter clockwise socket things. Places like kwickfit wouldn't touch it.

After talking to the service manager at the local Peugeot garrage he was very confident it was a 60 second job and he had never been beaten. 2 hours later he came out rather red faced and irritated that his "special" tool was too big for the bolt head and he had broken 4 of his personal sockets removing the bolt (you get a slightly smaller socket and hit it on with a mallet then use brute force).

The book price for locking wheel bolt removal at Peugeot of £27 which is what I paid for 2 hours work :)
Luckily I was able to get the other 3 locking wheel nuts off myself and bought new normal bolts and fitted them.

I've owned lots of cars over the years and I've not yet had a car with locking wheel bolts that hasn't been a hassle. The best thing you can do is taken them off ASAP and fit conventional bolts. Nobody steals alloy wheels any more... the cheapest of the cheap cars come with them as standard.

Damn! Tried to get my locking wheel bolt off, as the key is lost!
It sheared off!!
It appears the more prominent rounded bit is held on by a thin bit of metal!!
Prob anti theft deterent!!
Anyway now what?? Drill it out??
Always something needs doing lol

I managed to get one bolt off by smacking a socket onto it without it shearing. I then took the bolt to my local dealership where they had a bunch of spare locking wheelnut sockets.
Each socket had 3 pins at different points round the inner circumference.
They had one which was close enough a fit to be able grind off a single pin and make it fit.
After that I was able to remove the offending locking wheel nuts and dispose of them, as I was breaking the car and selling the alloys anyway.

Are your lockers Peugeot?
My car has McGard lockers I lost my key so I got in touch with McGard and had to send them
1.) Decent pic of the bolt head
2.) Copy of my V5
3.)Copy of a utility bill
they can get a new key just by looking at the pic and it costs 18 Euros (£15-ish) posted to you
