Steering very shaky??

Post by jasonjalet »

Hi guys, I bought a 206cc a few days ago and I love it :-)

BUT I've noticed that the steering is wobbly, even at low speeds, and it vibrates and turns left on its own so the car doesnt go 100% straight. The gearknob also shakes quite a lot when I drive??

The NCT (Ireland equivalent to MOT) was just one in April and it passed the tracking test for the steering wheel.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the problem is and can it be fixed? Im not too worried about it because the car drives fine but It concerns me a tad.

Thanks!

Are there any dents or distortion in the front wheels? If so then the wheels themselves could be the problem.

Are the front tyre pressures to specification? I run mine at about 35psi if I remember rightly.

Are the front tyres very worn, unevenly worn, and/or are there any bulges or splits in the tyres. If so a new set of tyres, wheel balance and realignment of the steering should cure the problem.

Or the front wheels could be just out of balance, in which case they'll need balancing.

Good luck, let us know how you get on. Welcome to the forum.

As for the shaky gear knob, are there any clonks when you pull away? Could be a symptom of a broken engine mount.

I wonder if the car has ever been crashed....
