Is the timing belt due yet? 46,000 Miles?

Post by jasonjalet »

I'm buying a 2003 Peugeot 206CC with 46,000 Miles on the clock. Does anybody know when the timing belt needs to be replaced? The car is costing me €3,250 and I want to keep costs down.

It depends on the engine. Assuming it is petrol and not diesel then belt replacement is due as follows:

1.6 engine

Every 100,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes sooner.

2.0 engine

Every 80,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes sooner.

So if the 2003 car that you are interested in is a 2.0 model, and has never had a new cambelt, then it is due now.

If it is a 1.6 engine then it will be due for renewal in 2013. So you'd have 2 years to save up.

Hope it's a good one. Which engine did you get?
