What do I do if my local garage has messed up the repair??

Post by ChrisW »

My Peugeot 206cc went into the local garage precisely 2 months ago. The light had come on for the ESP/ABS brakes, though the brakes still appeared to be working perfectly. I've had varying stories from the garage, not all of them consistent, one of which being that they thought they'd sorted it but then found the brakes had seized up altogether. I've been told it would be ready to collect four times, only for another postponement. Having bought a replacement car, I'm now paying insurance on both of them, but what's more to the point is my concern that they've simply messed up (an expression they actually used at one point) and can't put things right. I assume that if/when they acknowledge they're out of their depth, I will have to arrange for it to be transported to the main Peugeot dealer. Having been told that the bill so far is £1500 (£500 already paid), I have no idea what the main dealer will charge for transport and repair. Whilst I wouldn't want to claim compensation or the extra insurance from a small, but otherwise good, garage, I do need to know my position as regards payment of their bill if I now have to pay a lot more to the main dealer to correct the original problem and possibly put right any problems caused by the current garage. Look forward to hearing your views!

I'd give them 7 days in writing to finish the job. Pay no more money to them until the job is finished perfectly.
