Hi My car beeps regularly telling me the boot is open when its not. Then yesterday each time I started her up an anti pollution fault flashed up and there is a light on my dash which is to do with the emissions that stays on.
I've had issues with lights flashing on off randomly before but am not sure if this is an electrical fault or a genuine emissions fault.
The only thing I've done differently with the car this week is that she was nearly on empty and I just topped her up with £20 of Asda fuel and so I'm wondering if there may be something nasty in the petrol, I usually fill her right up when I buy my fuel but didn't on this occasion as I normally get my fuel from Tesco. This may have no relevance and I maybe clutching at straws. Just wanted some info before yet another trip to the garage with her. I service her annually (February), last summer I had new water pump, cam belt, head gasket and valves etc has the water pump failed catastrophically on the motorway causing cam belt to brake etc. She's done 48,000 and I drive short journeys daily and some motorway and longer journeys.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction please????

Could be the fuel, I'd never use supermarket fuel myself. Shell V-Power is the fuel of preference for our 1.6.
If it is not the fuel then it is likely to be something to do with the fuel and exhaust system, or the ignition system, or even a faulty sensor. Do you do a lot of short journeys perhaps? They can cause a build up of deposits.
If the car seems to be running OK, i.e. not misfiring, then I'd fill it up with decent petrol at the earliest opportunity and give it a longish run at motorway speeds. May clear out any unburnt deposits. At least that could eliminate that probability.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I use ASDA fuel all the time in two cars and haven't had any issues. Re: the random lights on the dash, I'm wondering if it's to do with your battery? Is your car still on the original battery?

Thar has a point. What year is the car, what mileage, which engine, and how many miles do you do each year?

Re: Anti pollution fault and emissions light on
Around to weeks ago i was driving back from work and the cat converter fault warning light beeped and the anit pollution fault also the car lost power dramatically and went into limpo mode. After borrowing some diganostic software it was discovered that the core pack had gone once changed the car was a good as new. my point to this post is that are you suffering from the same symtoms,if so might be worth checking it out.

I think you mean coil pack. Your car wasn't running right and was suffering from a misfire. It went into limp home mode.
Perhaps noddy323 will return to inform us of any developments.
