Hi LornaP and wlcome to the forum!

The roll bars are cosmetic. I swapped mine for chrome which I sourced on Ebay, very easy to do, there's a link to tutorial somewhere on the forum.

Here is my guide to replace roll bar hoops....

1. put the roof down.
2. undo the two bolts at the bottom of the rear bench, one in each foot well you can them pull the seat free.
3. undo the bolts at the bottom of the rear parts of seats, the seats then push up to release from there mountings.
4. undo the bolts for the roll bars which should now be visible, once undone the hoop should just pull upwards, you may also need to reuse the bolts.
5. do this process in reverse to re-assemble make sure the bolts are tight and that the seats are correctly mounted.
6. put the roof back up slowly, and i repeat slowly to make sure the glass clears the hoops as there are some stories of hoops going through windows.

god luck and i hope this helps xx

Yep definitely cosmetic, the box mine came in said 'WARNING: NOT INTENDED AS A SAFETY DEVICE' :P

You don't actually need to undo any seat bolts though - just pull the back of the back seat forward. Then as craigdjmv said - simply unscrew the bolts off the old ones, pull them out, put your new ones in, screw the bolts back on and voila! It's one of the easiest DIY aesthetic mods you can do to the car haha
