Hello, I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help!
I recently bought a 1999 1.1 206 for commuting in to work each day and I love it - so economical it's untrue.
However, the only hiccup is the starting is very temperamental - it turns over very, very slowly and sometimes I just get a clunck, but with perseverence it will turn over. I was "reliably" informed by a mechanic that it was probably the starter motor.
Today, I took the starter motor off to have a look, and found there was only one wire connected to it - a small spade running to a small blade terminal on the solenoid. Attached to the large terminal was the remains of what looks like some sort of copper connector, like that on the end of an earth strap - but there was no wire connected to it and I cant see one at the back of the bay.
I'm wondering if there was a wire that was so corroded it has snapped off during removal - and it was so poorly connected this was the source of the starting problems? Can anyone tell me if there should be a wire connected to the large terminal of the solenoid?
Thanks in advance
John

Re: Starter Woes
Ha ha - I got it sorted! After a bit of research, I figured out that there should be a heavy duty wire connected from the battery positive direct to the large terminal on the solenoid. £5.50 later from halfords for a new strap, hey presto! Car works a treat

Well done for figuring it out yourself. A cheap and simple repair after a bit of thought.
