Problem with eletrics need help

Post by mk1_griggs »

Hey guys new to the 206 forum

My Girlfriend brought a 03 206 ( 83k on clock) 2 weeks ago was all fine until on sunday
she was randomly driving it and all of the lights came on, on her dash alongside the milage
was replaced with a flashing stop sign and the petrol/ speedometer needles fell to O. Also the standard sterio is still in it but makes a bleeping noise when you turn it on.

I have managed to tempereraly resolve it by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting as all the lights
stay on even when the car is off and the key is removed! Took it to a garage for a diagnostics test and
they did not find anything

Really need some expert help :( :(

Welcome to the forum. You don't tell us which model your girlfriend has.

If it is still on the original battery it is 8 years old.

If so, from the little you tell us I would suspect that the battery is at the end of its life.

Then, if it was me, I would fit a brand new battery. Don't skimp on quality - get the proper specification.

Let us know how you get on. And tell us a bit more about the car if you have any more problems. All we know so far is that it is an 8 year old 206 with 83k.

Is it even a 206cc? which is the model this forum majors on.

Good luck.

The radio shouldn't need a code as it's paired to the car. I disconnect my battery in the Winter and never have to input a code.

Heya guys sorry about the brief description of the car
i figured out the radio bleeping only occures when all the lights come on, when there off no bleep so its obviously some sort of warning noise

And the battery you say ? would this have not became recognised in the diagnostics test :/ ??

and the car

peugeot 206
2003
black 3 door hatchback
1.4 petrol 5 seats

does not contain any logo relating to what type it is, must have been de badged.
but the car is not modified and has no signs what so ever of modifications alongside has only had
1 owner.

Thanks for the further info.

You'll have checked the battery lead connections are all ok? and that the earth leads and connections are fine, yes?

So after that, if the battery is the original (the date should be on it somewhere), my money would still be on the battery being at fault. At 8 years old it has already done well.

Doubt if that would show up in any diagnostics. However, I could be wrong and it's your girlfriends money.... I think it'll cure the problem though, and that's my four penn'orth.

Good luck,

Ron

Your local Peugeot dealership should sell the correct size (dimensions) battery at a competitive price.

No you don't need a code, the radio is programmed to only work in your car. I disconnect the battery every Winter and the radio just need the preset stations tuning in when the battery is reconnected. HTH.
