I think the insurers are wrong. Surely it tells you in your registration document?
see http://www.bryntecautos.co.uk/specifica ... icleID=668
However I have been known to make mistakes. I'd think it would either be an Allure or an SE. Never heard of a 206cc GTE. The GTE designation was a common Vauxhall hot hatch term.
As for your timing belt if the car is 8 years old get it done if it hasn't been done already. 80,000 or 8 years whichever comes soonest for the 2 litre. If it were me I'd renew the belt and tensioners and the water pump too. Refill with fresh antifreeze mixture too after a good flush out.
It won't be cheap but if the belt breaks your engine will be wrecked. If you don't replace the water pump at the same time you're asking for another expensive bill soon afterwards. Sod's law!

thanks for the info , which is good advice as i have only had it about 2 weeks
with no recent service history .its a 2001 car with 87,000 miles
i only had the log book back yesterday (after i posted this query ) unbelievably its had 11 owners, but under variant it just says 2DRFN , i have since phoned the dealer who originally supplied the vehicle and they agree with you and said its an Allure
many thanks

Hiya
Sounds like you have the same car as me. Mines a 2.0litre SE, and under variant on my log book it has the same description as yours.
Your car is an SE, which is basically an Allure. Peugeot changed the name of "SE" to "Allure" in 03 which is why your insurance company said that.
I had my timing belt changed when I bought the car last August because the change interval is 8 years or 80,000 miles.
Hope that helps?
Jack

Yeah sounds like it.....
Got a question, what temp does your oil temp display after about 5 minutes of driving?
Mine jumps straight to 90 degrees and if i sit in traffic for more than 5 minutes the oil temp hits well over 100, but theres no lack of performance and it doesnt seem to affect the engine, and the engine temp sits at like 70 -80 and doesnt seem affected. Then when traffic starts moving again it goes down.... just wondered if yours does the same?

Might be worth its worth checking youre oil levels using the dipstick as that seems to be quite quick if you havent already. Make sure the car is on flat level ground. Dont just rely on the oil guage when switching the ignition on to determine the correct level as its prone to being wrong. Also if the car is on a slope or not fully level when the ignition is switched on, it will show a false reading.
My 206cc seems to run at around 70 degrees when fully warm but it takes longer than 5 minutes to get that warm.

Thanks Cheekee, I have checked the oil level, also My car was serviced in January and had a full oil change so I'm guessing the oil level will still be fine.cheekee wrote:Might be worth its worth checking youre oil levels using the dipstick as that seems to be quite quick if you havent already.
