Roof and Electrical Problems

Post by The Yeti »

Hi All

I know this has probably been asked many times before but time constraints prevent me from searching through all posts. I do apologise but would be grateful for some assistance to resolve a problem on my partners pug. It is a 54 plate 1.6 with 32k on the clock owned by her since new, although not cosseted we have looked after it well.

To begin with the roof leaks like a bucket with a hole in it. Don't think the silicone sealant approach will work, think the seals have gone past the point of no return. Cannot determine which seal has gone as it leaks front, through the catches and rear through the point where the windows and roof join together.

We resigned ourselves to getting the roof re-sealed in the new year so put it in the garage to prevent further damage.

Unfortunately the battery went flat so i recharged it, this is where the other problems occurred. When the battery was charged up, all memory settings on radio, clock etc had been lost in spite of the battery not being entirely flat, sufficient power was there for lights, central locking and the engine would turn very slowly.

When we I got the pug running, every time we start it we get the roof operation buzzer sounding. I tried the roof and it went down OK but when I attempted to raise it there was a loud cracking sound, like the roof was not aligned correctly. Initially I did not know what had broken, thought it may be the rear screen, luckily this was not the case. What was broken was the plastic trim on the drivers side that covers the roof brackets.

Please could someone tell me if they have experienced these problems, i.e internal roof trim breaking and roof operation buzzer sounding each time the engine is stated.

Finally is anyone aware of a good independent garage that can undertake roof repairs on the pug, I have had a few experiences with my local main dealer and they are one of the most useless Peugeot dealers I have encountered. I have owned many Peugeots for over 25 years, including a 505 with 350k on the clock, but all the independents I know will not attempt roof alignments or repairs to the cc range.

We live in Shropshire area so would appreciate finding a garage in the Shropshire/ West Midlands or Welsh Borders region. We have access to my own car so would be prepared to travel a reasonable distance and leave the pug for a reasonable period of time for the repairs to be carried out.

Not expecting the repairs to be ultra cheap but looking for a garage who can complete a quality repair so the pug can be ready for the spring, If we ever get over the winter at all.

Many thank in advance
