Odd Electrical problem

Post by Peet »

Hi

Bit random, but my friend has a 2001 206cc and its developed a bit of a odd electrical problem,

This morning it wouldn’t open with the fob so she opened it with the key and then alarm started to sound and it wouldn’t start (guessing it was still immobilised). Eventually the alarm stopped.

The battery has been on charge all day and when connected back up the dash lights come on without the key in the ignition.

I’ve had a bit of a play this evening trying to see if there is anything back feeding through the alternator but it still does it, I eventually got it started but turning the key off won’t stop the engine.

I did manage to get it to lock and unlock on the fob by disconnecting 2 wires (orange and yellow n green) from the fuse box under the dash.

But it also has a mind of its own and keeps switching stuff on when the key isn’t in the ignition.

Does anyone have any suggestions what to try?

If the battery is 6 or more years old, I'd treat it to a brand new one as a start. A duff battery can cause all sorts of problems. This weather sorts out any battery that is at the end of its life.
