Tragedy in a 206CC to help preserve the life of others

Post by 52nd of February »

In July of 2004, a silver 206CC, driven by a 17-year old provisional license holder turned over, killing one of it's back-seat passengers. She was only 18.

The car's owner had only had the car for a week - it was a present for getting her license. The four of them went out for a drive, and allegedly did 100km/hr in a 50 zone, hitting the silver phone exchange, a sandstone wall, a tree, and another sandstone wall before flipping over. Witnesses say an oncoming car was driving on the wrong side of the road, and this caused the CC to swerve and lose control.
As the car was lying upside-down, the music was still blaring.

It was this loss that really put pressure on the government to introduce P-plater restrictions such as curfews and passenger limits. And that is what happened - red P-platers can no longer have more than one passenger between 11p.m and 5a.m. While this wasn't the only accident that contributed to the implementation of these laws, this was the accident that really pushed them to do something. Just over 6 years on and I've been through my red P's and was subject to these same restrictions but I didn't know that this was the accident that really pushed for their implementation.

Being a green P-plater with the same car this story had a strong impact on me, especially as I was subjected to the rules that it helped put in place, and had been through the first week of owning it, taking friends for rides just like this girl did.

I hope this never happens again and my thoughts and feelings are with the family and friends of the victim.

oh dear lol, im sorry but the reporters make it sound like its the cc's fault but i think it was the drivers at fault 100km/h in a 50 zone  and someone driving on the wrong side of the road if they were going the suggested speed limit they could of controlled the car :o but omg look at the state of that cc in the end
