Heavy rattle apparently within roof mechanism in boot

My 2003 LHD 2066cc recently developed a heavy rattle on going over bumps. The origin appears to be in the roof mechanism in the boot. The roof is working 100% and I am reluctant to start mucking about with such a comlicated mechanism. Removing the rear seats and backrest revealed nothing at all. Anybody got any ideas
