Dashboard controls fail while driving

I have had my CC for a couple of years now. It is the 2litre version, 2003. It has now had the same fault twice in the last month or so. While driving along the motorway the dashboard controls have completely failed, with everything looking like the ignition has been turned off. The engine isn't affected, and it all comes back up in under half a minute. Has anyone else had this? Is it a sign of something malevolent, or just another one of those "features" I can expect from this car?
