Just got this email, can anyone help them out :)

Hi there,

I was wondering if somebody could please help me. I recently discovered the site randomly through google, and found the topics relevant to me. Im sorry, I am still not sure of how to use it. I live in Cape Town, South Africa and I own a 2004 model Peugeot 206cc. I use the car daily.

Two days ago I was driving on the highway not more than 20km's from where I live when the "battery charging fault" warning came on, followed by the abs and airbag warnings. I reached home and switched my car off, leaving it for a few hours as I had a function to attend. When I returned home, I tried to start the car and the battery was completely dead. I jumped started it and took it for a drive, hoping the battery would charge. The car drove perfectly, although the warnings were on again. I reached home, switched the car off and when I tried starting it again, it was completely dead meaning it did not charge at all. A friend of mine told me that if the alternator was at fault, the car would have switched off as I was driving.

I contacted the Peugeot Dealer, and they are fully booked for the next few days and will only be able to have a look at the car next week sometime. Yesterday I jump started it once again and took it to a Bosch Dealer not far from me. The guy tested the battery (it was dead) and told me that it is the alternator, but he did not even have a look at it, and quickly gave me a very high quote on a new alternator. I did not agree to anything. I left from there and as I reached home the accelerator cable got stuck, it was holding the revs at about 1300rpm. Then the car started over heating, because the fan stopped running. I parked the car off for a while. A few hours later a friend of mine had a look at it. His theory is that the accelerator cable is electronic and because there was no power, it stopped working. Is this right? We drained the existing water and refilled after it heated up. We then took the battery from his car and fitted it into mine. The car started the first time, one shot. The battery light went off as well as all the other warnings. I then drove just up the road and the car was heating up just slightly. My friend told me that possibly the fan could not be working because it fused or there is a wiring problem or something. I am still not sure about the alternator. Tomorrow morning I am going to purchase a new battery. I really do not know what to do. Please could you advise me, I will really appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

Already have Lyndon, as I got the same message as you.
My response was:
Your battery is 6 years old and it sounds as if you need a brand new one. I think that will sort out your problem.

Make sure you get the right size, as some after-market replacements are less tall than the original and don't fit correctly.
