Purring sound from engine when A/C is on

I noticed that my car makes like a electronic purring sound when i turn on the Air Conditioner. When i press the accelerator, the purring sound's tone goes higher. Any idea what causes this? One of my friend said it's due to condensor issue

Peugeot 206cc 1.6 auto. 2003
