can anyone help? i had a slight rattle coming from the drivers side of the engine, i took it to a mate i know who took a look and then rang me and told me that the tentioner had gone and that the car needed a new engine. I find this hard to believe as the car is only 4 years old and done 43000 ,miles. the car is turning over but no compression, as you can tell i know nothing about engines can anyone help?

Sounds as if the camshaft isn't turning. If the belt has broken or slipped then the valves could have hit the pistons. Your mate may be right but the engine will need dismantling to assess the extent of the damage.
