I know that the 206 has problems engaging reverse at times (apparently just a peugot thing!) but I have been having a few other problems:
1) Sometimes when approaching a junction in 5th gear I put in the clutch and attempt to change down. The gear stick goes all floppy, I cannot select any gear and the car is still in fifth.
2) When preparing to overtake I change from 5th to 3rd and the changedown is far from smooth (clunks and grinds!).

Now both these problems are intermittent which is a pain as I know if I take it back to the monkeys they will just say they can't find it. Any ideas as to where I could point them to have a look?

Down a sewer? I share your scepticism about their ability to find let alone fix faults. I see so many problems on this forum that it absolutely amazes me when Peugeot write to me and say they don't have problems with the car. That is probably because they can never find them in the first place!

I would insist they change the gearbox but best of luck.

I thought it was just me! I have the same problem with reverse, also had it on my old 206LX as well but didn't realise it was a general Peugeot problem.

My Gti gearbox is dodgy too!
Dropping down from 4th to 3rd at about 45mph ish and over it goes in with a bit of a nasty noise, almost as if the syncro is buggered, car has only done 15k miles.
Going to book the car in and see what they say.
I can't believe how many people on here have had problems with their cars.

I too have trouble sometimes selecting my gears. I thought it was just the gear box wearing in - shows you how much I know, you wouldn't believe that I am married to a monkey would you!!!! Although he does work on Mercs and not Pugs, but never the less!!!

Is it something that goes away with time or do I need to get it sorted??

Thanks
