Hi,
A 2001 206 hatch shouldn't be multiplexed ( I think, others may correct me) so you shouldn't have all the fun and frolics of the multiplexed 206. No immediate problems spring to mind, you may get some response from others but worth noting that this is mostly a 206cc site so you may not get many problems specific to the 206GTI, although I beleive the 2 litre CC uses the same engine.

Look out for poor running from cold - indicative of the hydraulic tappet problem that 2.0 litres suffer from. If it has been warmed up before you arrive, be suspicious. Don't expect much change out of £1000 to put hydraulic tappets right. On 206 GTIs used for short runs from cold emulsified oil can block the feeds to the hydraulic tappets. Check the service history, I like to see oil changes every 12 months instead of the 24m, especially if its low mileage.
Check the central locking works ok, frequently doesn't.
Check the exhaust system, costs £900 for a new one piece exhaust from Peugeot.
Check lower ball joints, a frequent MOT failure point.
Check the cambelt has been changed, another potentially expensive job.
As usual on any car, check service history, tyres, brakes, and DO take a LONG test drive.
Good luck, Ron
