looking to buy a 206cc for the gf.

I'vve always been a fan of jap motors myself which means i'm pretty out of touch with any car built post 2000's.

I guess what im interested really asking is what to look for in a 206cc and im approaching this from knowing nothing about peugeots so...

I'm really comparing 2.0 and 1.6 model

I'm asuming this is on co2 emissions, so whats exactly is the tax difference?
performance - which is worth the money 1.6/2.0?
reliability - am i likely to more problems with the 2.0 than the 1.6?
Service intervals? am i better to buy a pre 60,000 miles or after? or when is the biggest service due?

Theres probably a website with all this info on so any links would be ace. that said thanks for any replies or help

:love-thx:

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Our 1.6 Allure cost £150 to tax for 12m last March. I suppose it would be more now.
The 2.0 will have more performance than the 1.6 but they seem to have more problems. They are a lot thirstier too.
Service intervals are 2 years or 20k miles whichever comes sooner.
The "big" one on the 1.6 is at 80k miles when the cambelt is due for renewal.
I would buy the youngest car that my budget could afford as the newer ones seem to have fewer problems. I personally would go for the 1.6 too, but then again I did, and we have never been disappointed.
The only extras that we have bought are a space saver spare, and a wind deflector.
Buy at this time of year and prices will be at that cheapest.
Wait until spring and you will pay top whack.
Best Wishes,
Ron

Get the 1.6. The car is too heavy to take performance into consideration and most girls don't care about that anyway.

1.6 - 110bhp
2.0 - 138bhp

I have Y plate 2.0 and have owned from new. Car tax is now a silly £205 a year and now more than my insurance. Economy wise it is not bad. I reckon on over 30MPG around town and far more on country roads and motorways. Never had a roof fault. It is supposed to be serviced every 20K or 2 years, although I would recommend an oil change every year as there have been issues with sticking tappets on these cars. I service my car myself as I do not trust garages and my only criticism in 6.5 years is the exhausts are weak and can be expensive to replace. Performance wise its better than a Mini cooper or Jap wise it will see off a Civic type S. 0-60 is easily sub 9 seconds. 127 MPH Vmax. It has good all round performance. Reasonably nippy, good at overtaking and effortless on Motorways. That said handling is lacking if you like to drive enthusiastically.

Going by what you have written. I would not suggest the 2.0l though. If your budget would stretch then I would recommend a Diesel 1.6 HDI 206CC. Not 100% sure, but believe it is £115 per year to tax. Far better economy than either of the petrol options and has more torque than both other variants.

I would also suggest avoiding cars registered late 2001 until end 2003 as high demand for these cars appears to have made standards slip. Meaning said cars can be problematic.
