Hi
Car is going back in tommorw to have the inside of the roof cleaned due to the little :mfight: getting mastic and oil finger prints all over the roof when they fitted the new seals for the 2nd time.
I have to say that when they test the MPG with the computer DO THEY SWITCH THE COMPUTER ON!!!!!
Having filled the car right up (before it went for the MPG to be tested) and only driven the car 107 miles in 2 weeks i have used half a tank of petrol :( :(. This is not miles completed on the motorway or that i am in traffic.
I will see what the dealer has to say tommorw about the MPG.

Hi
Got the car back today the car has been completed cleaned but they did miss some of the mastic on the inside of the roof. The dealer is going to send the cleaner around to my house to clean what he has left behind tommorow.
NO DONT STOP ME IT GETS BETTER. :D
The dealer has also had the software reinsalled on the car for the MPG and filled the tank up (to full), he has told me that the computer gave a reading of 35MPG and he has asked me to run the car to half a tank and call him to let him know how many miles i get for that half a tank.
Maybe they are starting to come around to the problem of the MPG.

Yes, but what sort of trips are you doing? When the engine (and the weather) is cold, you'll get about 8 mpg to start with. If you're doing long runs that's fine, as the 35 mpg of the "long run" bit is the dominant factor. But if you're doing a lot of stop-start, short trips, aircon on, cold weather you'll probably be lucky to get 20.

I will take this into account,
I travel from home to work (about 15 miles one way), i dont have the air con on and i am not stop and start, only at the lights.

update on MPG
The tank is now back at half a tank and it is showing that i have done 125 miles, this is better, and i have taken note on the 8 MPG when cold and i have been doing longer runs in the car this week, so this does seem to have somethink to do with the MPG but i feel that the MPG should be alot better on a new car, my old car did better MPG this!

Have you tried waiting until it's warmed up (at least 10 miles), then resetting the MPG thing? You'll find you get decent (ish) MPG on a run.

Trust me, it will get better. I guess they just come out of the factory "tight". When ours was new, filling it up always made the "range" gauge go to 270 miles. Now when it's filled up, it says 330 miles to go.

I've decided to run an experiement on my fuel consumption to compare with what's been said here.

So...I filled the car up, and the 'range' showed 330 miles as Carl said. Strangely this changed to 288 after I had driven 2 miles :? I will check how many miles I have done when I have half a tank of fuel left.

Also, I reset my computer and at the moment my average is 18 MPG  although I was sat in rather a lot of traffic yesterday. I haven't run my air con at all.

I have a 2L 2002 and zero'd the trip computer 2300km ago before I went away on a trip (about 70% highway and 30% traffic) I switched the display over to MPG and it says that I have an adv of 39 MPG over this distance. I have had the car for almost a year now and have done 24000km, I did the exact same trip as I mentioned above a couple of weeks after I got the car and the adv fuel consumption when the car was new is almost exactly as it is now so their claim that your probs are because the engine is not run in doesn't agree with my results.

good luck with the :monkey: s

Thats the strange thing,
I drive to work and i am going the other way to the traffic and the same going back, and the car has been tested twice by Pug and they have reinstalled the software,(before the reading was 21.2 MPG now it reads 25.6 MPG) and it does seem to be better, but no where near to the MPG that i was told by the dealer and what it says it should be in the manual. i used to get more in my old Esort than i am getting now.
The posting about the car doing only 8 MPG when cold does seem to have something to do with it, but having to warm you car up for 10min before setting off to get better MPG should not have to be done in this day and age.

They do seem to be thirsty. When I picked up my 2.0l, I drove it about 10 miles on a dual carriageway and was amazed at how the fuel guage moved!

As promised...I got 124 miles from half a tank of petrol and computer was showing 27 MPG.

From the full tank, I got 260 miles, average 27.9 MPG, 19 MPH.
