As the reg is still on the vehicle, then there's no need to retain it, just hang onto the car. As long as you don't scrap the vehicle, you can use it as a donor.

I wanted a plate from our old camper (no, the REALLY REALLY old '71 camper, not the rusty '76 which we stil have) but... the donor vehicle has to exist which it didn't really (we choppped it up and only kept the engine and doors!)... I'm not sure if it has to be MOTd?

Anyway, you could always offer them £100 for the pink jag, or do a swap for your Fester. Then the plate comes with it and you get a nice pink Jag to drive around into the bargain.

Oooh suit you sir

you have to have a current MOT to transfer a plate.

Thats how the government get to regain some really good registrations.

People scrap cars or let them rust and then cant get an MOT

I know one of the directors at JCB spent nearly £80k on restoring some old car that was nothing exciting just so he could get the reg off it.

Company I used to work for (Haynes - the great manuals!) published a book about numberplates and we interviewed this bloke in London who brought a numberplate for his Ferrari to stop his wife driving his car, he brought PEN 15!

Quite a good idea really I wouldn't want to drive a car with that on the front!

well try this number plate that is up for grabs at the next DVLA auction

5 EXY

the reserve price is £3500, so who is gonna buy it then. I would but I might get done under the trades description act
There used top be a jag that would always be parked in hollywood bowl, margate with 115 exy (spaced as 11 5exy)

Every week we would look to see who the driver of '2 sexy' was, and imagine our disappointment when it turned out to be some middle aged (plus a bit) scraggly old woman!

Appologies to anyone who knows her!!!!
