Hi, (reap - can you help with this one, or anyone else please).
I've had problems with ERROR messages appearing on my dash. It started early November 07 with "Catalytic Converter Fault" then "Antipollution Fault". These both dissapeared and have been replaced with "Airbag Fault". The Airbag fault wont go away.
See http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 946#p99946 for original posting.
SO, I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL PUG DEALER
1) "Catalytic Converter Fault" and "Antipollution Fault". The garage said this was due to low oil level. At first the mechanic said I hadnt had the 20,000 mile service and was about to continue when I said "yes I have!". I had this at 18k miles (it only has 23k on now and is an 04 plate). He went and checked and came back and said yes I had. He then said they would top up the oil and give it a test run. Cost: £7.64. I wished I had waited until he made some great excuse up about not having the 20k service and what they might have charged. He also said this is what might have (would have?) caused the "Catalytic Converter Fault" and "Antipollution Fault". Suppose I should be grateful its not the CAT or tappets (but at 23k miles would it be?).
2) "Air bag". They say I need a new COMM 2000 unit. Cost: £210.29 fitted! Apparently this is the device that controls the airbags. I was told the airbags wont deploy until the COMM 2000 is replaced. I've done some research on Google and found the following:
COMM 2000 unit: The squib is the rotary switch behind the steering wheel on NON plexed Peugeots. On the multiplexed cars the airbag squib is part of the COMM 2000 unit. Thats the headlamp / washer stalks big lump of plastic that also has the airbag squib & horn rotary switch wiring built inside.
According to Google £200 is not a bad price for a new COMM 2000 fitted.
QUESTIONS:
1) Could low oil cause "Catalytic Converter Fault" and "Antipollution Fault"? There was no oil light on and oil temp was fine.
2) Is an 04 plate 206cc 2:0 non-plexed or multiplexed? Is the COMM 2000 the but that goes behind the steering wheel with the indicator stalks on it? Here is a photo of what I THINK one looks like http://i5.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/bb/10/7631_1.JPG
3) How can I tell if the garage really do fit a new COMM 2000? If it is the bit with the indicators on I can put a secret scratch on and then check to make sure a new one has been fitted???
Hope this is of help to someone but would also like to know the answers to my questions.
Any help much appreciated.

hello.unlikly low oil caused your anti poll fault,so keep on on that
yup the picture is of a comm2000 and any car with a comm2000 is fully multiplexed,so yes yours is to.
the comm conrtols the trigger 1,2 of airbag deployment, maybe a change it wont deploy until fault is fixed.
be careful going the second hand route for a comm as there are many diffrant types for differant spec cars. you have been warned.lol
hope this helps
