Fuel Gauge shows empty

Help!!!...just put 30quids worth of petrol in and now the fuel gauge is showing empty....warning light is on and the computer is telling me i only have 34 miles left to do!...when this gets to zero miles, will the engine cut out or will it carry on running on my "ghost" fuel?? Is there a sensor or something inside the fuel tank and / if it is, will it be a garage job to fix???

I had this once, I put in a fiver from an expensive station just to get me to work and on the way back the thing was still complaining, so I put another fiver in and it jumped up as though I'd put a tenner in!

Try and fill it up a bit more otherwise a trip to the garage should sort out the sensor and just keep topping it up regularly.
