I've got a 1.4lx with 30k on the clock, 2000 model. At first the car had what I'd call a squealing fanbelt kind of sound, this then disappeared to be replaced by a rapping noise which changes frequency according to revs, more noticable when coasting although not totally masked by the engine while accelerating, only happens when car is moving and also when turning left and right. Is the service manager going to be getting the calculator out when I turn up on his forecourt. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks maximillion$

sounds like you have a clutch release bearing going, which is gearbox out. or another common similar noise is the middle bearing on the osf drive shaft.if the two 11mm bolts that hold it into bearing race become loose,it will spin in the housing causing a whining noise.
hope this helps. :)
