Ok, so i was driving back from a nice girlie night out, braking as i approached a roundabout and all of a sudden i realised that my engine had cut out.

I managed to limp to the side of the road, just coasting. I turned the key off, then tried to re-start the engine but the engine just kept trying to turn over but would not fire up.

Called the AA who came out and couldnt find what the problem was - not the coils they tell me, but they think a wire is shorting out the circuit. It keeps blowing the fuse in the ecu every time you try and start the car.

Anyway, got towed home and my dad had a look. He traced the wires back etc and took the headlight out and wiggled a few wires and suddenly its working again.

So i think im home free and then on my way to netball tonight, the engine dies again at traffic lights. Same scenario, engine just won't turn over and had to get towed home.

Does anyone have any ideas?!?! I give up with it! I still have my lights working, and various other things are ok, it just won;t turn over and the wipers seem not to work now either.

Its a 2.0 SE - 52 reg

Help!!

Problem solved!

My dad has found the problem to be a dodgy lambda sensor - lots of frayed wires causing the short circuit!!

Thanks anyway guys!

Well done by your Dad Hayls!

And thanks for reporting back on the fault - it'll probably help someone else - you never know.

A friend of mine had just had a similar problem with his wife's 206 1.1. When the problem happens, there's no wipers, indicators, central locking, or the car won't start.

Hayls, any idea if all the these didn't work on first when it played up?
