Hi all, Woundering if you have any idea's if an 02 Plate 206cc Automatic Gear Box are known for problems,

Since Buying the Car Second Hand 3 Months ago for 10k, Ive Had no end of problems with the gear box.

First Time was is was Leaking oil - took it in, they replaces seal.

Second Time Steall Leaking Oil. - They Said They Used A faulty Seal, Put New Seal in, End of problem.

Third Time, Gear Box would always go into sports mode, then 15 secs later it would make a thud and the display would say automatic gear box fault, then car would be really sluggish!

Took It in, The Said that 2 of the Gear Box Valves were faulty, They Replaced them, then they blew the ICU - Had to wait 14 days for them to get a new one in. They replaced my rear disk and pads as a guesture.

NOW all of Sudden, Every Time I Start my car up, Automatic Gear Fault Displays on the display and car is sluggish and no Power.

Theys Told me The cant see whats up, with it and they cant have the car in till Monday and thy also aint got no spare cars to give me for 3 weeks!!

Any one had any Issue's like mine?

Regards Danny

yes there is a problem with al4 auto boxes.tis oil pressure faults caused by solenoids in the box.sounds like you have had new....BUT... when the modified solenoids are fitted(borg warner) it is essential to carry out a ecu software update to make the new solenoids compatible with your car other wise car will reject it like a kidney transplant.and the engine managment needs update software to understand what the al4 gear box is talkigf about.
also if your car is a 2.0 or 1.6 16v you also have to learn the parameters of the motorized throttle body.
lastly the boxs are sensative to amount of oil put in them,if there is to much or to little it will cause you all kinda probs. the oil is a very special mineral type.if normal oil used then your gearbox.WILL break apart inside.
hope this helps :)

Thank You for that information Reap!,

Its Was Some Sort of use, though, as its under warrenty, theres not much i can do with it,

But Friday, Driving the car home, its just died on me and i couldnt get started for about 10 mins, when i did, i also got Antipollution Faults and The Automatic Gear Box Fault Warnings flashing on the display!

Havent got a clue what anti Pollution Fault is and i dont know if its serious, Mind you i did take car down on thurday, and they said the ecu would prevent any more damage, and on saturday when i took the car down cause it died on me on friday, they put the car on the computer and they changed their story and said it would be advisable to leave my car there, as they had 10 pages of fault print outs ranging from Speed Sensors, oil sensors?

Any Ideas Is thats Just Ecu Software Problem? or Faulty Ecu? It is a new ecu though. or is there somethink more serious?

Would you suggest that i should think about getting rid of car?

regards

Danny

Hi all you 206cc lovers
Little gearbox (manual box) story you might be interested in, bought the wife 06 206cc 2 x years ago mileage reading 34,000m, last week had a clutch problem (or so i thought?) hissing sound from the gearbox area.
Lifted the bonnet started the engine, wife depressed the clutch sound gone, release clutch sound returns, right (i thought!) dry or damaged release bearing.
WRONG! the problem lies inside the gearbox.
It sounds like dry running bearings, I drained and refilled the box with fresh oil same no difference (so dont waste a tenner+ on 2ltr oil)
Best way i found to check if it is the gearbox and not the release bearing is drive down the road (about 30mph) depress the clutch (still in gear) if the noise is still present its the gearbox.
Looking for a second hand g/box @ the moment but i will open this box and see if i can find where this fault lies? any ideas out there?
Mainshaft or Layshaft as depressing the clutch stops the shafts from turning?

Opened g/box mainshaft and layshaft bearings damaged replaced bearings refit g/box, good as new. looks like lubrication problem?

If your buying a secondhand 206 listen for this sound as it could end in tears and a new g/box or at least take out a warranty on the box.
