I purchased my black cc from JamJar over 5 years ago. It was a UK car and I saved almost 1K on the list price. Plus I had a Peugeot credit card, which gave me another 1K off of the price. I then modified it.
1ST was to fit new ICE and an SP grilles.
2ND was to lower and uprate the suspension. As IMO the CC's only poor point was its handling. This was fixed and feels and looks great now.
For a good 6 months I had not seen another black CC on the road, but then there seemed to be an influx of cloned black cc,s so I fitted some GT bumbers and colour coded side strips to make it look unique.
I also fitted some Lexus lights.
Five years on and I still love my car. Just the other day I had a lovely drive though the Cotswold’s. I found this nice little village by a stream. I parked up and had a little walk around and then decided to cool off in the river. Whilst in the river with my wife I notice a strange look on her face. She gives me this concerned look and then looks towards my car. I look round to see some guy lent up against the wing mirror smiling. I was about to go off on one when I realized that he was having his picture taken along side my car. How sweet. A car that’s book value was less than his own. There was a 06 Porsche boxter parked 2 cars down that he could have chosen? Good taste!
Going back to my point after about 4 years I had to have the exhaust replaced, my brakes never really squealed, but I started to get a rattle, which I noted disappeared when I touched the brake pedal. My car also squealed whenever faced with some large potholes on dodgy roads. I also had to have a new battery this year and it was picked up on the MOT that one of the front ball joints had an abnormal amount of play in it. It passed the MOT , but I was advised of it.
Now I could rant a rave that the CC is poorly built etc, but with slight exception to the exhaust and brake rattle I honestly believe most of these issues have been due to the modifications I have done. And even then the exhaust probably wasn’t helped very much from being scraped over speed humps, which if it weren’t lowered would not have happened. And the rattle from the brakes probably would not have started to occur if I hadn’t had the suspension stiffened and me pressure washing all the residual dust from the calipers.
My point is that when you modify a car or start-replacing things you will have a downside and that are the components will wear out quicker and F-up. If like me you are prepared to take this because the advantages outweigh the disadvantages then by all means modify your car. My only other point is that my car was faultless for 4 years and then it started to need new tyres exhaust and stuff. Nothing serious just consumable components, but if you buy a new car for 3 years you shouldn’t have to worry about this stuff. Peugeot offer a 3 year Warrantee for a reason and the components of the car only really need to survive 3 years for them to be happy.
If you buy a 2nd hand car that has been modified or not, be prepared to give your car some TLC. You could look at getting a new CC from a reputable Internet dealer. Try Broadspeed or look in the back of TOP GEAR magazine.
As for my car. I have uprated the tyres to Michelin Exaltos as I found on our other car they have better grip in the wet and have lasted a lot longer. I have had the ball joint replaced and I have just changed the front discs and replaced all the pads for upgrades. No more rattles squeaks, better grip handling. Its like a super MKII CC. Better than new CC. I bloody love it.
