Apologies if this is the wrong area to post this, but I've got a bit of a dilemma!

I've had my car on the market for a good couple of weeks now and have only had 1 person come to view it and another enquire about it. :(

My question is, how much should i be selling it for? :? Details of the car are as follows:

2003 - 03 Reg
Nearing 17,000 miles
Full black leather interior
Air conditioning
Metallic Black
Alloys
Sports pack (fog lights, alloy gear knob and pedals, white dials)
There is one 1 inch scratch on the far side panel
2 owners from new
Based in Bristol

I first had it on the market at £10,295 but realised shortly afterwards that my price was slightly high when compared to other cars within a 60 mile radius. :|

I now have it at £9495 with the hope of getting no less than £9,200 for it.

Would you consider this to be reasonable or am I just "wishful thinking"? :?:

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!!!! :D

Depends on model but I would say maxima as follows:

2.0 £8500-£8750

1.6 £7750-£8000

Less if the scratch can't be polished out because you've got to allow for the cost of a professional respray of the panel.

There are lots of near perfect ones about so people have plenty of choice.

Good luck with the sale.

It's a 1.6S - sorry forgot to say that! :)

I can't believe the resale value can be that low though even with the scratch!

I guess i am "wishful thinking" then!

Oh well, guess i need to struggle on with my value cos I really can't afford to go below £9200!! :(

Thanks for the advice!

My 04 went for £9300 when only 18 months old and that was quoted as "showroom condition"

Ok, that being the case then, can someone please explain to me how people justify the price of their pugs when within 100 miles of my postcode (Bristol), there are 03 reg's going for £10k with bog standard cloth seats, wheel trims and 27k mile's on the clock? And they're being sold within a few days of it being advertised?

I find it very hard to believe that the price at which I've valued my car is unreasonable.

I appreciate cars cost differently where ever you go, but when I've paid £11,700 for the car about a year ago and suddenly I have to reduce it to less than £8500, that seems a little bit extreme!

I appreciate everyone's comments, I really do, but I just find it very hard to believe the amounts you're suggesting!

No worries.

As I said, Good Luck with your sale.

Just let us know how much you manage to get when you do sell.

Check out the What Car depreciation index. After 3 years the 206CC 1.6S falls below £8000.

http://www.whatcar.com/depreciation-ind ... D3=0&ED4=0

Backs up what AK47 paid for his 2004 car.

No-one is getting at you or trying to undervalue your car. The figures are objective and independent.

Its obvious to say that a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but 8.5K for a 1.6 03 cc seems a bargain. It’s somehow difficult to judge. Like with houses people will say their house is worth XX amount because the one down the road sold for X amount and they have the addition of a conservatory land, garage, bells and whistles, but there becomes a point where you have to look around and ask what else you can get for the same money. There may be 03 cars advertised at 10K, but have they sold?

I look at it this way I only have a Y reg and if someone offered me 8K it would be a “no thanksâ€

Guys, I really wasn't having a go with my last post and as I said I really do appreciate all your comments.

I realise my biggest problem is the competition with Nissan, Renault, Mitsubishi and the likes!

In answer to one question, yes there have been a few in my area which have sold with more mileage, older reg's etc and they've managed to get £9800 for them - both private and trade! I have been doing my homework to justify my price.

I don't believe my price is unreasonable, I have put it on the market for what I feel I would pay for the spec, even with the scratch (which is very minor). I admit my price may have started off a bit extreme, but I think it's at a reasonable rate.

The reason for the sale is that my boyfriend and i are finally getting onto the property ladder and we want to clear our debts with the money we get from my car (the majority of it being debt taken out for the purchase of the car).

But all this aside, please let me reiterate that this post wasn't created to start an argument or debatable discussion, I generally wanted people's thoughts!

Thanks again, and when eventually I do sell, I'll let you know how much for!

Property is a better investment. It appreciates as long as it is freehold.

Put it this way. If you had put it up for sale at 8K and it sold the next day then you would be thinking you should have advertised it for more.

You can always reduce the price week by week like you are doing.

From my own experience I find advertising locally is better than Autotrader etc. I would be trying local papers. People that will pay over parkers guide prices are going to be people who want the car quickly and probably wont want to travel. You need to appeal to people who are going to be lead by their hearts and not there heads. The weather is in your favor.
